Operating System
QiTissue runs on Mac, Windows and Linux OS.
Please check here when a system update is released to make sure the newest QiTissue version is compatible. We try to stay up to date with current platforms.
CPU
CPU has a considerable effect on performance in QiTissue. Both speed and number of cores play a role in this. Speed is measured in gigahertz (Ghz), Cores allow your computer to process multiple tasks at the same time in order to amplify the speed of the task at hand. Better CPUs will result in shorter loading times, faster imports, and quicker responses. We recommend having a system with at least 4 cores.
GPU
GPUs come in many forms and often as a discrete component from the CPU either on board or as a separate graphics card. We have tested quite a few of these but not all the variants out there. The 3D viewer in QiTissue uses a geometry shader that is not available in many low end or old graphics solutions. Those tend to be Integrated graphics, where the same CPU chip also does GPU instructions. Most modern gaming and workstation GPUs should support all the features in QiTissue.
Apple
MacOS 10.14.6 or later
The 3D view will not be supported on low end Mac laptops with intel based integrated graphics or very old models (older than 5 years have not been tested). Anything Mac with a discrete GPU (or 2) will display all features of QiTissue - including the M-series processor (a hybrid integrated chip which has discrete GPU functions). It is most likely that all other operations will work fine, given enough RAM and cache (free hard drive space), as they do not rely solely on GPU functionality.
Intel
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit) version 1703 or later
64bit Linux
Windows 10/11 has a pretty intense requirement for graphics which may exceed the power of integrated graphics cards. Linux supports anything. It is most likely that all operations other than the 3D viewer will work fine, given enough RAM and cache (free hard drive space), as they do not rely solely on GPU functionality.
Integrated Graphics Chipsets
Are not generally recommended and will most likely not run the 3D view. All other functions should default to running on the CPU and work correctly.
RAM
8GG – 32GB
RAM is the temporary storage your computer uses to access data quickly. When your RAM is too low, the computer must instead use your hard drive for working memory, which is significantly slower. We recommend having 32GB of RAM.
Storage
500GB free space or more
QiTissue needs to create on disk cache files for reading large files from efficiently. a cache file will be 130% the size of the dataset it represents. The faster this disk space is to access the more responsive QiTissue will be. SSD for your data is highly recommended. This can quickly rack up hundreds of gigabytes when you take into account all of the original file data and generated cache files. It also requires about 800MB of space to install the application. More storage space means you’ll spend less time managing files on your hard drive.
It is highly recommended to use external SSDs, as high-end users will certainly exceed the 500GB limit generating cache over time. Consider the Apricorn Aegis Fortress L3 SSD for heightened security and additional storage.
Display
1280 x 800 pixel resolution or better
External Display
Multiple displays are hghly recommended and well supported.
